Why I'm seeing this: Facebook explains (a little) how the newsfeed works
Why do you see those ads on Facebook?
First, Facebook wants to give you more information about why you see those ads on Facebook. According to the company, in the past, its “Why I see this ad” tool highlighted one or two of the most relevant reasons, such as the user's demographic information or whether they visited a specific website. From now on in this section you will be able to see more detailed segmentation, which will include the interests or categories that specifically matched those ads on Facebook. In addition, according to the platform, it will also be clearer to know where the information came from, such as a page that you have recently “liked” , in addition to highlighting the controls you can use to adjust which ads you want to see… and which ones don't.
Know which companies have shared lists with your information
The large social network has also made an update to the Ad Preferences section, in order to show you more information about the companies that upload lists with your information to Facebook, such as an email or a phone number. From now on this tab will have two sections:
Those advertisers who have uploaded a list with your information and it has been impacted through an ad . This section will include advertisers who have uploaded and used this information to serve at least one ad in the last seven days.
Companies that uploaded and shared a list with your information. This section is intended to help you learn about third parties and companies that have uploaded and shared lists of your information. You'll see both the company (third-party data broker) that uploaded the list, along with any advertisers who used this list to show you an ad in the last 90 days.
